Coffee Cup

Reading books is all very well, but how can we get involved at a local level in this ongoing and lively debate? How can we hear the arguments first hand and express our own views?

What is Quench?

It's an opportunity to discuss issues over a cup of coffee. Our aim is to be informal, accessible and open.

Who else will be there?

Anyone is welcome, and there is no charge (although you'll have to buy your own coffee!).

What happens at Quench?

We start with a talk, introduction, or video of up to 30 mins introducing the subject. This is followed by 40 mins or so of questions and general discussion. Anyone can ask a question; no question is too simple or too hostile!

Will they use big words!?

The goal of Quench is to open up the issues and to create a forum for discussions that are relevant and real. We therefore aim to be clear and accessible, without dumbing-down the subject matter or making simplistic statements.

Where and when?

Quench will meet in the Maranatha Centre, Glencairn Street, Motherwell from 7.15–8.45pm. You are free to come and go as you please during the evening, although we'd recommend getting there by 7.15pm to get your coffee and not to miss the opening statements at 7.30pm. For dates and topics, see over. [You can park nearby on-street]

"Mind, Consciousness and the God Question"

We are pleased to announce a new session of Quench events in the Maranatha Centre. The first meeting will take place on Tuesday 13 September at 7.15pm.
(Please note the switch from Mondays to Tuesdays.)

Quench events are built around coffee and discussion with the main topics usually taken from the big and perplexing questions of life.

Several meetings in the autumn will be focused on previews and discussion of a new soon to be released TV series entitled "The God Question" [View Trailer]. To accommodate time for dialogue, each documentary of just less than 1 hour has been divided into 2 parts. Do join us on Tuesday 13 September to view and discuss part 1 of "Mind, Consciousness and the God Question". Part 2 will be viewed and discussed the following week, on Tuesday 20 September.

If you would find it interesting to discover the wonders of the human mind and brain, ponder what it means to be “God conscious” and discuss whether religions have more in common than divides them, join us for some stimulating evenings at Quench.
